The Perth Redbacks secured their first back-to-back win this season, scoring a hard fought 103-107 victory against the Goldfield Giants at Evolution Mining Stadium on Saturday night.

After a sluggish first half and a heavily one-sided Redbacks foul count, the Perth team – with guard Isaac Etter as man of the match – took control of the game in the third quarter.

Redbacks coach Luke Sunderland said he was happy with the performance.

“Besides a really bad second quarter we hit our marks,” Sunderland said.

“The guys held their nerve and controlled what they could.”

The Redbacks’ turning point came in the fourth quarter when they went on an 11-0 point-run off the back of a defensive adjustment from Sunderland.

“The first part of the fourth when we went on that [11-0] run was huge,” Sunderland said.

“Neil Wright [the assistant coach] implemented a zone that we hadn’t run before and the guys were great at taking the info on board quickly and executing.”

Isaac Etter played a huge role throughout the game, helping to control the tempo while protecting the ball and taking over offensively late game scoring 34 points.

“I think I settled in after I hit my second three after getting a steal in the corner,” Etter said.

“Felt like I was able to get a groove going after that.”

Sunderland praised Etter’s composure and impact across all quarters.

“Isaac has been rock solid all season,” Sunderland said.

“His fourth quarter and mindset to take over was the most important part, equally his zero turnovers for the game were outstanding.”

Etter also finished with eight assists, zero turnovers and shot 7/12 from beyond the arc.

This win puts them in the top eight on the ladder in the western region, just behind the Cockburn Cougars.
